What are the benefits for parents, schools, librarians, and children?
Aside from parents and grandparents, those who best understand the inherent values in the art of storytelling for children are school administrators, librarians, festival planners, and children’s museums. Not coincidentally, schools, libraries, festivals, and museums are among the main venues in which professional storytellers are hired! StoryWatchers Club™ Adventures in Storytelling is a valuable resource for each of these venues to have on their shelves, because this new DVD series serves to complement and support the significant investments these organizations have made in storytelling programs throughout the years. In summary, some of the benefits are:

For the Parent... StoryWatchers Club™ instills high moral values, exposes children to global cultures, and promotes discussion and interaction between child and parent. It’s a program that brings the entire family together.

For the Teacher... A wonderful tool to reinforce your curriculum.

For the Librarian... Whether you hire professional storytellers or do your own Storytime programs, having this series in your AV section adds a tool to your existing programs and raises awareness in your community about the art of storytelling resulting in increased attendance.

For the Child… Teaches communication and interaction with others, builds listening, reading, and verbal skills, encourages their creative imaginations to soar, and promotes writing and telling their own stories. Inspires kids to read.

What are some of the other benefits of storytelling for children?
StoryWatchers Club™ programs, which feature some of the nation’s top professional storytellers, will serve to complement the goals that schools, libraries, festivals, and children’s museums have sought to achieve through storytelling. Here are some of these goals:

  1. Sparks imagination. When kids write or tell their own stories, they create from within. StoryWatchers Club™ features Albert Einstein’s famous imagination-is-more-important-than-knowledge quote on its back cover.
  2. Moves a child to write and tell their own stories (a concept reinforced in the DVD Special Feature, “Kids Tell Stories, Too”).
  3. Raises the desire to read. If a child is interested in a folktale, he/she may be inspired to read about folktales.
  4. Creates global awareness through different genres of storytelling, holidays, multicultural events, and traditions from other countries.
  5. Promotes interaction with parents to talk about stories from their own childhood.
  6. Increases communication skills and confidence.
  7. Opens discussion for stories with moral issues or with a particular point of view.
  8. Inspires kids to think more about the world around them.
  9. Provides a deeper understanding of people’s diverse heritages.
